Acts of Kindness Ministry Requesting Personal Care Items
Kansas City, MO -- The National Baptist Laymen Acts of Kindness ministry was initiated in Louisville, KY in 2008 when the Congress of Christian Education convened there. The ministry seeks personal care items from members and friends traveling to the conventions to donate to persons in need.
Since 2007, the laymen have been ministering in men and women homeless shelters. The personal care items are donated to those shelters to distribute among the residents.
Michael Washington, (above) who gives leadership to the outreach and evangelism ministries is asking for persons to once again bring personal care items to Kansas City, Missouri.
Items requested are sheets, pillows, bedding, men's clothing, socks and toiletries.
Many persons will travel to the various cities and then go and purchase items once they get there. Washington welcomes this approach, especially for those who fly to the convention.
Street Ministry Team Need Witnessing Volunteers
The street ministry leadership is requesting for persons to join them as go to the streets each day in preparation for the climax on Friday. The Kansas City host committee has three sites designated to conduct street evangelistic services.
Each day the team will depart the Morning Star Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. to go an witness and prepare the sites for the main service on Friday. Transportation will be provided. On your arrival in Kansas City, contact Michael Washington or Delester Jefferson. |
National Laymen Male Chorus to Make Their Second Appearance at Kansas City Convention
Kansas City, MO -- President Simmons had a desire to revive the Male Chorus ministry for the laymen. He sought out Dr.Ken Harris of Arkadelphia, AR who has been a laymen supporter for years.
Harris faithfully attends the Walter Cade, Jr. Southwest Workshop (Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama). The Southwest Workshop was one of the first workshops to form a Workshop Male Chorus. Harris has played for them since it's inception.
Therefore, president Simmons knew who to call on to lead his vision of a national male chorus. Simmons has been traveling around the country recruiting and making appeals for men to join the male chorus.
The male chorus made their inaugural debut in Memphis, Tennessee during the National Baptist Convention Annual Session. They will now make their second appearance in Kansas City and sing during the various laymen services.
The laymen's sessions will convention at the Kansas City Convention Center named the H. Roe Bartle Hall Convention Center located at 301 W. 13th Street in downtown Kansas City. |
