2011 National Bible Bowl Champion

Kansas City, Missouri, New Era District Celebrate National Bible Bowl Winner Markus Snead 

 

Markus Snead<![endif]>Kansas City, MO -- On June 23, 2011, Markus Snead of the St. Mark Baptist Church and Kansas City, Missouri won the National Bible Bowl Championship held in Indianapolis, Indiana. This was the first time that a contestant from Missouri had won in the Bible Bowl's thirty year history.

 

Snead had finished fourth in 2009 in Detroit, MI and second in 2010 in Houston, TX.

 

To celebrate the victory and honor Markus, the laymen of the New Era District Association held a reception in his honor.

 

The reception was held at his home church St. Mark. The immediate past laymen president, Luther Lewis, the new laymen's president Curtis Hammons, New Era District Director of Junior Laymen Work Martin Clark, Associate Director of Junior Laymen Work Minister Grant Lewis, State Director of Junior Laymen Work Albert Byrd and Moderator William Snorgrass attended the reception to congratulate Markus.

 

Snead was presented with a special medallion that noted he was the 2011 - 2012 national champion.

 

The Missouri State Laymen instituted their bible bowl program in 1989. Markus becomes the first winner in its history.

 

 

 

Indiana Wins Basketball Championship   

 

 

Indiana 2011 Basketball Champion 

The team from the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Indiana where Jerry Williams is the laymen's president won the 2011 national basketball championship this past June. 

 

It was held during the National Congress of Christian Education held in Indianapolis, Indiana June 20 - 24, 2011. 

    

The championship game was between Kansas and Indiana. In the third place game, Michigan defeated Missouri.

 

The trophy presentation was held during the Mission in Education and Evangelism luncheon on Thursday at Eastern Star Baptist Church located at 5750 E. 30th Street.

   

Dallas, Texas Hosts Walter Cade, Jr. Southwest Workshop

 

Southwest Workshop 2011Dallas, TX -- The Walter Cade, Jr. Southwest Laymen's Workshop was held on this past weekend, July 22 - 24, 2011 in the city of Dallas, TX. 

 

The laymen from the three Texas conventions (Texas Baptist State, Texas B.M.E., Texas Educational State)

combined their efforts and resources under the banner of Texas Laymen Fellowship to host the laymen and supporters from the states of Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana.

 

The theme for the workshop was, "Christian men Solidarity with the Savior". The general assembly presenters were:

 

Donna Campbell, TX - The Role of the Laymen's Wife

Glen Lacy, MS - Steps Toward Pleasing God

Pastor Otis Davis - Strengthening Pulpit/Pew Relationship

Pastor Basil Joiner, AR - Summation

Thad Jones - The Work of the National Baptist Laymen

 

On Friday, the annual junior laymen Bible Bowl was held. Danzanl Blount, MS (top photo) was the bible bowl winner.

 

On Saturday during the banquet, the trophy for the most delegates was awarded to Alabama which had 209 delegates. There were 681 registered delegates:

TN - 89

TX - 109

MS - 190

AL - 209

Dear State Presidents:

 

     We write at this time praising and thanking God for all of his many blessings, his goodness and mercy.

 

 

We want to remind you of our Royal Court and John L. Webb Awards and Fellowship Banquet that will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011, 7:45 p.m. at the Rosen Centre Hotel, 9840 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819.  The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jerry Young, pastor, New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi, Vice President-at-Large.  The Royal court will take place prior to the banquet which will begin at 6:00 p.m.

 

A resume was emailed to you for those that will be participating in the Royal court contest where each state convention is asked to donate $750.00 or more to march in the contest. The participants will sit at the head table during the banquet.  Please send your donations for the Royal court as soon as possible so we can adequately plan for seating. 

Those state conventions that will be in the running for the KING, please report all monies to Brother Jerry Williams, 5801 Arabian Run, Indianapolis, Indiana 46228.   If you need additional information on the Royal Court Contest, please contact me and I will forward the information to you.

 

All contestants need to be at the hotel by 5:00 p.m.  All resumes need to be turned in as soon as possible so we know how to plan.  We need to know the number of contestants that will be participating.

 

The John L. Webb Banquet will follow the Royal Court.

Volunteers Still Needed For Nassau, Bahamas Evangelistic Ministry

Vice President Mike Washington, street ministry leader, Delester Jefferson, and evangelism leader Dr. Alfred White are still looking for volunteers to go with them to minister in Nassau, Bahamas during the weekend of August 29 - September 4, 2011.

 

This effort coincides with the celebration of the 155th church anniversary of the St. Mark Native Baptist Church where Dr. Carrington Pinder is the pastor.

 

The team will minister during the day in the street, schools, prisons and communities. In the evening, the team will participate in the anniversary celebration with services held each night.

 

The guest speakers that are programmed for the St. Mark services are president Harold Simmons, Dr. Robert Baynham, president of the Kansas State Convention, Dr. Jerry Young, V.P. at Large of the NBCUSA Inc. and Dr. George Waddles Sr., president of the National Congress of Christian Education.

 

Round trip flights Orlando to Nassau and back to Orlando will have to be made.

 

The team will be lodging at the Breezes Bahamas Beach Resort with a rate of $99 per person double occupancy.
