Bill Cherry is King of Georgia |
Atlanta, GA -- The General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. held their 144th Annual Session this past week, November 10 - 13, 2014 in the city of Atlanta, GA. The Georgia laymen president Robert Owens delivered his second address and the laymen held their annual king contest.
This year, William "Bill" Cherry, Jr. from the 10th District won the annual King Contest and will serve as Georgia's king for the 2014 - 2015 year.
Cherry is a regular and faithful supporter to the National Laymen and his son served as the National Junior Laymen president in 2013.
Immediate past Georgia Laymen president James Deen can be credited with Georgia's state king contest that provides funds for the laymen's ministries. Deen became active in the national work back in the late 1990's and brought many of the national concepts to the state of Georgia. These adopted ministries have proved to be successful and a benefit to Georgia. Not only have they been a benefit to Georgia, but also the national work. Georgia has won two national King contests.
