Mid-Winter Board 2012 Update


The National Baptist Convention U.S.A., Inc. Mid-Winter Board held in Nashville, Tennessee came to a close on yesterday, Thursday, January 19, 2012.

The laymen began meeting on Sunday night, January 15th with a special two-day retreat with State the President's Advisory Council and continuing on Monday morning. The session officially opened on Tuesday morning and closed following the annual Special Projects fundraising breakfast at 7:00 a.m. on Thursday morning.

The state with the most contributions to national laymen ministries was Alabama followed by Mississippi General and Kansas respectively.

The breakfast keynote speaker was Dr. Bosie Kimber, Secretary to teh Board of Directors and pastor of First Calvary Baptist Church, New haven, CT.

Tuesday morning - Dr. Robert Manaway, (WA) president of the North Pacific State Convention
Tuesday afternoon - Dr. T. L. Lewis, (AL) pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham
Wednesday morning - Dr. Elliott Cuff, (OH) dean of the National Congress of Christian Education
Wednesday afternoon - Dr. Washington Lundy, (NY) National Vice President, Northeast Region

Up to $5,000/year

Special Requirements:

The Ponder Minority Scholarship is available for MU minority incoming freshmen planning to major in accounting, economics, finance, international business, management or marketing. Applicants must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid Form (FAFSA)

Amount:

$7,175/Yr.

Special Requirements:

Sam Walton Scholarships in Business are awarded to incoming freshmen majoring in economics, finance, international business, management of marketing with the intention of pursuing a career in retailing at the MU College of Business. The scholarship provides $7,175 per year prior to receiving the BSBA degree. The primary qualifications are academic achievement and financial need as demonstrated by the FAFSA. Additional consideration is given to an expressed interest in retailing.

State presidents are reminded to support the National fundraising

effort during the Special Projects Breakfast.

 

Contributions benefit national laymen operations, special projects,

evangelistic efforts and promotional material.

 

State laymen presidents are asked to solicit $25.00 from one hundred

men in the state to reach a $2,500.00 goal.

Please google Dr. Freeman and you will be as happy and exciting as I am to have such Historian to grace our program.  Please do the same for our convention President, The Rev. Dr. Jimmy L. Brown, who is a world renown Prolificator of The Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A note about our Guest Presenter: A native of Virginia, Dr. Freeman’s educational background includes degrees of study at Virginia Union University, Andover Newton Theological School, Harvard University, Chicago Divinity School, the University of Vienna in Austria and the University of Liberia in Africa. He has served as a minister for churches in Boston, Rhode Island, Virginia, and presently at Mt. Horem Baptist Church in Houston.

Sheep & Shepherds Basketball Game KCMO Laymen VS KCK Laymen Feb __, 2012

State Jr. Laymen Director, Anthony Woods shared w/ me that the Jr. Laymen already have February 25 set aside for a Jr. Laymen Black History program at Friendship Baptist, Columbia, MO.  Our preference was for Saturday, February 18th, a holiday weekend. Please disregard the date below.


Dear Laymen we are in the process of revising date for the KS. MO. Sheep (members) and Shepherd's (Pastors)  Basketball game  for a date in February possibly the 25th, Please respond if you have an interest in participating and/or supporting. We are involved in developing the details; location, advertisement,  refreshments etc, at this point
