Howard University Will Hold Auditions For Music Scholarships in St. Louis
February 10, 2011 - During the week of the SHOWDOWN: Historically Black College & University Drum Line Show and Recruitment Fair, Howard University music department staff, led by Band Director John Newson, will be holding scholarship auditions for area high school seniors. Howard's "Show Time" Marching Drum Line will be among the HBCU ensembles performing in Show-Me Sound Organization's 2nd annual SHOWDOWN at Chaifetz Arena on Sunday, March 6 at 2pm. The staff will be in St. Louis from Thursday, March 3 until Monday, March 7.
Audition information:
Location: Central Visual and Performing Arts High School
(3125 S. Kingshighway, parking on the Kemper Street side)
Date: March 3rd 2011
Time: 1:00p.m. 2:00p.m. SLPS only 2:00p.m.-4:30 p.m. open to all qualifying students in St. Louis
Room: Band Room
Date: Friday March 4th and Saturday March 5th Location: TBA
Audition criteria:
* Students auditioning must be a high school senior (2011)
* Student must have a 26 or higher on the ACT
* Student must own his/her own instrument
* Student must perform all Major Scales
* Student must perform a grade 4 piece for audition panel
* Student must be prepared to site read
* Students must apply to Howard University admissions no later than February 28.
* Scholarships will be awarded based on talent, performance, and ability.
