Appeal to Baptist Men to Support Annual World Day of Prayer Saturday, April 23, 2011 | Forestal Lawton Director Men's Department BWA | Kansas City, MO -- WHAT IS THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER An annual event of the Baptist World Alliance Men's Department, for men in more than 200 Baptist conventions and unions around the world, is the Baptist Men's Worldwide Day of Witness and Prayer. It is observed on the fourth Saturday of April. It seeks to involve Baptist men in a unified day of witnessing, prayer, giving, fellowship, inspiration, and learning Baptist men, throughout the world will pray for God's help as they seek to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the world. Many will follow up their prayers when we in unity pray for each other and for the entire world. Never is the fellowship deeper, richer and stronger than when we as one heart and one soul are praying together. OBJECTIVES OF THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER A. Recommit to living for Jesus Christ. B. Recommit to the mission of winning unsaved souls back to Jesus Christ C. Pray for ways and opportunities for men to become actively involved in and dedicated to reach the whole world about the love of Jesus Christ for all. D. Pray for power to find ways and opportunities for men to become actively involved in activities designed to reach the whole world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. E. Give sacrificial offerings for men's work around the world, in order that men in every Baptist convention and union might be enlisted, trained and involved in these activities. F. Witness to all people on this day as a part of the weekend's Lay Revival activities. G. Fellowship to encourage other men and to learn of international needs. PRAY, THINK, ACT - Philippians 4:6,8-9 Paul exhorted the Philippians to prayer instead of anxiety. Praying with thanksgiving involves trusting God. Four words are used here to describe a believer's communion with God. Prayer (proseuchē) describes a believer's approach to God. Petition (deēsei) emphasizes requesting an answer to a specific need. Thanksgiving (eucharistias) is an attitude of heart which should always accompany one's prayers. Requests (aitēmata) speak of definite and specific things asked for. When the exhortations of verses 4-6 are heeded, the peace of God (v. 7) will flood one's troubled soul. The Lord Jesus Christ is a believer's peace (Eph. 2:14), and every child of God has peace with God through justification by faith (Rom. 5:1). But the peace of (or from) God relates to the inner tranquility of a believer's close walk with God. Pray - Do not be anxious about anything. Let your request be known to God Think - Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, loving, admirable Act - What you have learned, heard, seen or received from me, put into practice Promise - And the God of Peace will Be with you.
