| | Dr. Carlos Williams and Dr. George Waddles, Sr. | The National Baptist Laymen officially opened up the Allen Jordan Seminar today at 10:00 a.m. in the Indiana Convention Center in Ballroom 500 Reception. The laymen's devotion committee opened the session up on a high spiritual note with songs, scripture and prayer. President Simmons delivered the official opening remarks and greetings and brought into focus the reason for the many men and women have come to Indianapolis this week. For the first time, the Congress leadership assigned a discussion leader to each department lecture to speak on the Congress theme, "Solidarity with the Savior Through His Word". The laymen's discussion leader was Rev. Carlos Williams. Following the discussion period, the Social & Fellowship committee gave a report Mission, Education & Evangelism luncheon to be held on Thursday and made an appeal of the 30 Year Anniversary t--shirts. | 
| | Dr. H. B. Charles, Jr. | Dr. George Waddles, Sr., Congress of Christian Education president came by the laymen's session to introduce Dr. H. B. Charles and to encourage the laymen's division. Charles is the pastor of the Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Florida. He started his week-long lectureship series with the laymen on a high and spiritual note. He challenged the attendees with the lecture titled, "The Wise Prayer of a Weak Man". Proverbs 30:7-9. Charles is one of the convention's great young preacher/pastors. This is the second time that he has preached for the laymen. The attendees left the ballroom with a greater appreciation for prayer and their role in coming to God as their source for relief, need, health and strength. The Education committee gave directions for classes and the first day of teaching and instruction was a good and successful day. Indiana is the National Champions There were four teams who competed for the annual National Basketball Championship. Missouri, Michigan, Kansas and Indiana. After Monday's games, Missouri and Michigan competed for third place with Michigan winning and Indiana and Kansas competed for the championship with Indiana winning. The teams will receive their team trophy and individual awards at the Missions, Education & Evangelism luncheon on Thursday. 25 Come to Christ at Marion County Jail #2 The prison ministry team led by chairman Emerson Turner conducted their first of two prison ministries for the week. The first one was conducted at the Marion County Jail #2 where nine teams members went to minister. There were sixty-three persons in attendance at the ministry. All nine team members ministered in some fashion. (song, prayer, testimony or inspirational message) The Marion County Jail #2 singers rendered selections during the worship period. Asst. Vice President and prison ministry team member Ernest Tinsley delivered the keynote message. His title was, "Future After Failure", using Peter as an example of how persons can be a great service to Christ.
