"Praying With Spiritual Priority" is the Theme of H. B. Charles Lecture <![endif]>The National Baptist Laymen's Allen Jorday Seminar continued on Wednesday, June 22, 11. The 10:00 a.m. session opened up again with prayer, scripture and praise from the devotion team. Dr. Carlos Williams, (right) from Flint, Michigan, pastor of the Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle Church began the service with the Discussion Period speaking on the convention theme, "Solidarity With the Savior". His central thought was taken from Colossians 3:16. Following the discussion period, the Adopt-a-School ministry gave a report on the ministry and asking the laymen and supporters to place more emphasis on it in their respective cities and communities. A brochure was distributed to the attendees giving information on how to start an Adopt-a-School ministry and who to contact for more information. Dr. H. B. Charles, Jr. of Jacksonville, Florida (right) continued his lectureship series with the theme, "Praying With Spiritual Priority". His message was taken from Colossian 1:9-12. Charles had four points for the attendees to consider: 1. Pray for Devotion to God's Will 2. Pray to be Filled 3. Pray to Walk Worthy 4. Pray for Dependence on God's Power Again the attendees were very attentive and focused on Charles' delivery and presentation of information as he preached with power. One Comes to Christ as Women Minister at Dove Recovery House <![endif]>Under the leadership of Doris Simmons, the Wives and Women Supporters Ministry went to the Dove Recovery House to show and demonstrate the love of Christ to women with various substance abuse conditions. There are twenty-three women living at Dove at any one time. The Simmons team of eight ladies (left) ministered in song, scripture reading, prayers, testimonies and the word of God. Alcion Ambler, Kansas City, KS delivered a powerful and inspirational word from the Psalm 23. Sandra Jones the song leader, extended an invitation to Christ and one lady came as a candidate for baptism. Local host Janet McMichel will be responsible for the lady to be baptized at a local church. The women also delivered personal care items for the women from the laymen's Act-of-Kindness Ministry. Eight Come to Christ at the Duvall Correctional Center | Edward Mayberry | For the second consecutive day, the laymen's prison ministry team lead by Emerson Turner was in a correctional facility in the city of Indianapolis where the National Congress of Christian Education is convening. Today, Wednesday, June 22nd, the prison team of ten, were ministering at the Duvall Correctional Center located at 1848 Duvall Avenue. The team once again ministered in song, prayers, scripture reading, testimonies and the spoken word. Edward Mayberry, (left) from Hutchinson, Kansas delivered the keynote message. Coming from Psalm 17:8 and I Corinthian 12:9, his message title was "Hold On, Help in On the Way". Out of the forty-three persons who attended the service, eight gave their lives to Christ. That is a two-day total of thirty-three persons won to Jesus by the prison ministry team. Twenty-Eight Come to Christ at Street Service The laymen held their annual June street evangelistic service at the Blackburn Terrace Community Development. There were singing, praying, scripture reading and testimonies going forward. The evangelist was Rev. Dr. Alfred White from Kansas City, Kansas who delivered the message. The report is: 115 - In attendance 7 - Candidates for baptism 19 - Coming on their Christian Experience 2 - Desiring to be reinstated 27 - Requesting special prayer Acts-of-Kindness Ministry Delivers Over 900 Personal Care Items <![endif]>The laymen's Acts-of-Kindness Ministry led by L C Mitchell (right) of Canton, MS ministered at the Day Spring Homeless Shelter for Families. There at the shelter are thirty-nine families being housed, many coming in the last year due to financial hardship caused by the economic recession the county is experiencing. In the greater Indianapolis area, there are more than 15,000 homeless people ranging beginning at the age of nine. Mitchell led a team of eight persons to minister and deliver personal care items to the residents. There were more than 900 items delivered to the shelter that included soap, lotion, deodorant, hand sanitizer, wash cloths, shampoo, tooth brushes, tooth paste and much more. The administration, staff and residents were in awe of the quantity of items delivered by the National Laymen. devotion committee opened the session up on a high spiritual note with songs, scripture and prayer.
