Narique Gibbs, New Jersey 2010 National Bible Bowl Champion | | E-Quarterly Turns Eleven Years Old Kansas City, MO -- Dear Friends: I didn't realize I would be doing this as long as I have. This all started after attending the Walter Cade, Jr. Midwest Region Workshop in Denver, CO. After attending that workshop where now Colorado/Wyoming president Larry Taylor served as the General Chairman of the workshop, I was moved to report and share the uplifting experience that I had at the workshop. Even to this day, I believe they sponsored one of the best Youth Night Programs that I have witnessed at a Walter Cade, Jr. workshop. I also wanted to take advantage of this growing and fast moving technology called the Internet, express-of-information, less energy and inexpensive way to communicate since the Fax Machine. It is called email. One way that you can tell how long we have been supplying you with information is when the "Volume" number changes. It represents the year in service. You will now see Vol. 11 displayed in your subject line and in the newsletter. The "Issue" represents the number of the newsletters within that year. The year starts at the end of each April or the beginning of May. The Quarterly, the original printed version began in September 1993. If anyone has heard me speak at a Walter Cade, Jr. workshop, you have heard me say that the National Baptist Laymen's Movement is the greatest men's organization on this planet. Therefore, it has been a joy in reporting about the programs, ministries, work and activities of the national body and the men and women who work so tirelessly as volunteers to advance its cause. But a greater joy is to report on all the great work for the Kingdom that men and women are doing around the country as they operate under the banner of National Baptist Convention U.S.A., Inc. Their work, ministries and programs are inspiring and motivating to so many people around the country. We take pleasure to highlight these activities so God can get the glory. Of course, over these past ten years, the E-Quarterly has taken on several different forms and styles. Not only that, but other forms of communication has become a by-product of it, such as the News Flash, Facebook and text alerts. We hope to continue to make positive changes, improvements and enhancements that will make the newsletter an anticipated item to your inbox. We welcome and solicit you comments, constructive criticisms and offers of improvements. As budgets get tight and technology keeps advancing at a rapid pace, this form of communication becomes the primary means of communicating with you. Be on the look out! "You got mail". | | Simmons Licensed to Preach Gulfport, MS -- It has finally happened. For years, laymen who have gone to proclaim the word of God on Men's Days, Laymen's Days, annual addresses, revivals, and other special programs have been threaten that a pastor was going to license them for their boot-leg preaching. Well the Rev. Lewis Ragins has carried out the threat with the support of the Morning Star Baptist Church of Gulfport, Mississippi. This past January, President Harold Simmons was there proclaiming the word of God as he had done on previous occassions and throughout the country. This time Rev. Ragins was ready for another great message by Simmons. Following the Simmons message, Ragins went to his office and came back with certificate which was a Certificate to License to preach. Ragins called for the vote and the church voted unanimously to license Harold Simmons. Simmons tried to beg off the act indicating that persons don't need a license to proclaim God's word. Ragins would not have any of it. He made it official with the consent of the church. The certificate reads: CERTIFICATE OF LICENSE This is to certify HAROLD SIMMONS who has given evidence of the gift to proclaim THE WORD OF GOD was licensed to proclaim the gospel as he may have opportunity and to exercise his gift in the work of the Ministry as a Layman Given this twenty-third day of January two-thousand eleven By Morning Star Baptist Church, Gulfport, Mississippi | Moses Garrett and Laymen to Lead Second Second Calvary in Revival | Moses Garrett Laymen President | Cleveland, OH -- On this coming June 1 - 3, 2011, the laymen's ministry of the Second Calvary Missionary Baptist Church of Cleveland, Ohio will sponsor a three-day revival. Dear State Presidents: We write at this time praising and thanking God for all of his many blessings, his goodness and mercy. This correspondence is to bring you up to date and share with you the plans for our 30th Bible Bowl Anniversary Tee-Shirt. We spoke about this project at the Mid-Winter Board meeting in January. Well, the shirt has been designed; what we need now are salespersons. We have fifty-one (51) individuals serving as State Presidents. Remember, many states have more than one president; Mississippi has six (6). Our plan: For example, if each State President was to order twenty (20) each what a blessing! Our goal is to sell 800 shirts. What we want to do is have pre-ordering for our June Session. Let us, Mr. President, work together on this project for the sake of our Junior Laymen. It still takes money for scholarships and all of the projects we want to start. We have been blessed to have an activity last 30 years and it is still going strong. With your help, support and prayers it will get even stronger. A sample (picture) of the shirt and prices are enclosed. We need your orders by April 30, 2011.. Your order must be accompanied with payment. Please make check payable to National Baptist Laymen and send to Brother Jerry Williams, 5801 Arabian Run, Indianapolis, IN 46228. The order blank can be e-mailed to sajb619@cs.com or mailed to Brother Walter Brown, Jr., 28 Plum Street, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724, telephone (732)- 74l-0807. We thank you in advance for your assistance. Yours in Christ, Harold L.
