22nd Annual Wives & Women Supporters Prayer Breakfast Rename and Ignites Annual Session Kickoff Atlanta, GA -- The 89th Laymen's Annual Session being held in the city of Atlanta, Georgia began in earnest at 7:00 a.m. at the Marriott Marquis Hotel with the Annual Melinda J. Cade Laymen Wives & Women Supporters Prayer Breakfast. The breakfast was renamed this past January in honor of prayer breakfast founder and former general chairwoman Melinda J. Cade who passed away in October while serving. There were more than 125 persons in attendance and they came to pray for this week's convention activities. The program consisted of couples serving worship leaders, rendering scripture, and offering prayers. Eve Ridgeway Name Prayer Breakfast General Chairwoman One of the first order of business for Doris Simmons who gives leadership to the Laymen Wives & Women Supporters Ministry at the beginning of the Prayer Breakfast was to name a successor to Melinda J. Cade in October 2011 following the Orlando, Florida convention. The general chairwoman position was allowed to be vacant in honor and memory of Melinda J. Cade who founded the breakfast and was the serving general chairwoman at the time of her death. Eve Ridgeway of Detroit, Michigan and wife of National Devotional Leader Jefferson Ridgeway was name the new general chairwoman. Ridgeway is no stranger to the work of the prayer breakfast and the work of the Laymen Wives & Women Supporters. She along with her husband and twin boys have been working in the National Laymen's Movement for many years. She has demonstrated to be faithful and a dedicated servant in all that has been assigned her and the many capacities she has served in. Children of Melinda J. | (L-R) Harold Simmons, Doris Simmons, Jyana King, Steven King, Eve Ridgeway, Sandra Jones | There were many emotions that the attendees of the prayer breakfast experienced with this being the first one without their leader longtime leader and the work, love and memory of Melinda J. Cade still on everyone's heart. With the 22nd breakfast and those going forward bearing name of Melinda J. Cade, two of her children came to Atlanta to attend the breakfast and to received special recognition and acknowledge for thier mother's work and service. Receiving a tribute in honor of their mother were Steven and Jyana King. The Laymen Wives & Women Supporters, the Prayer Breakfast Committee and the National Baptist Laymen's Movement shared with Melinda's children how much she meant to them. Francess Joyner Moves Audience About Four Women Francess Joyner of New Jersey was the Melinda J. Cade Laymen Wives & Women Supporters 22nd Annual Prayer Breakfast keynote speaker. Joyner had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats as she spoke about four women from title of "Getting Close to the Savior" Joyner rehearsed the biblical accounts the (1) woman at the well, (2) woman that anointed Jesus' feet, (3) woman with an issue of blood and how each one got closer to Jesus after their encounter with him. With out the audience knowing she mentioned a fourth woman and the terminal diagnoses on her life like the other three. After describing the the conditions, Joyner announced that the fourth woman was her and how after the healing power of Jesus how she had drawn closer to the savior. Other Photo Highlights |
