Christmas Greetings from Our state Laymen President

As I set here preparing to send this note, I'm reminded things are beginning to happen at a rapid pace. People are doing last minute things to prepare for the season. Everyone seems to be building momentum for that one day of the year when people  come out of their dull mundane lives to stand in the Christmas light, if just for a fleeting moment. Everything does not always seem to come together into a pleasant experience. This is because we adults seem to see things as what has to be done rather than what is coming.

All too often we see Christmas as a mass of activities and not an event in the history of man that changed the lives of people forever. Even for a fleeting moment the encounter with the light of the world means that we cannot any longer see this world with the same eyes we had before we encountered God in human flesh. This was the purpose of the Coming of Christ. He came that we might have hope; he came that we might have life. There are no depths of despair that God has not plunged to nor any heights to which he has not ascended. He came into human history in order to bring us the love of God, the hope of God, and help of God.

Christ's coming brings hope into the hovels of our existence. He brings love to a person locked in the throes of despair. He brings help to the  person lost  in chemical dependency. He brings help to the person who sees no alternative to his lifestyle.

As we prepare for the Advent of our Lord, may we use the season as a time of drawing closer to God rather than trying to pack the season with activities which will be forgotten until next year.

May you and your family enjoy the merriest of Holiday Seasons and the New Year bring you many good fortunes and all rich blessings.
