Baltimore, MD -- Last Night, Thursday, November 3, 2011, the Troy V. Lewis Laymen's League, the auxiliary of the United Baptist Missionary Convention of Maryland, celebrated it's 22nd Annual Recognition and Awards Banquet. The Laymen's League is named for it's first president Troy V. Lewis. It's  current president is Filmore Hart.

The banquet was very well attended and there were pastors from many of the Baltimore area churches present. The master of ceremonies  was past president David E. Smith. Joseph Miller, a past president of the Troy V. Lewis laymen was named Layman of the Year. Miller serves on the national prison ministry team and assists chairman Emerson Turner in the Prison Ministry class.

The night was climaxed by an inspirational message from keynote speaker, Dr. Bowyer Freeman, pastor of New St. Mark Baptist Church. The night ended with each honoree receiving a certificate of appreciation and congratulatory handshakes from president Hart and Dr. James B Gray,Jr., president of the United Baptist Missionary Convention of Maryland. 

 

2012 Mid-Winter Board Portfolio Announced

Kansas City, Missouri -- General Secretary Thad Jones announced yesterday, November 3, 2011 via a News Flash that the portfolio to be handed out at the 2012 Mid-Winter Board session has been selected.

Portfolio 2012At the January session the laymen hand out a portfolio or some type of carrying case as a part of the registration. This year it will be a leather portfolio.

The Mid-Winter Board session will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, January 16 - 19, 2012 at the World Baptist Headquarters. The laymen's headquarter hotel will be the Millennium Maxwell House.

The specifications are:
Folder size: 14 1/2" W x 11" H

Screen Print Area: 6" W x 4" H  (Front)
Deboss Imprint Area: 4" W x 3" H  (Front)
Standard Blind Deboss Size: Up to 12 sq/inches
Folder Color: Black

The portfolio are reserved for those who turn in a $40.00 Discipleship. Due to the the cost of shipping, there are no mailouts. Persons must pick them up or have a representative pick it up for them.

 

Discipleships can be mailed in or turned in during the on-site registration at the hotel.

 

 

First Missionary Baptist Brotherhood to Celebrate 38th Anniversary

Summerville, SC -- The First Missionary Baptist Church of Summerville, SC will celebrate their 38th anniversary on November 20, 2011.

First Missionary Baptist Church is where former National Baptist Convention Vice President, Dr. Willie Givens, Jr. is  pastor and former National Laymen Asst. Vice President Jerome Sanders is a member.

Dr. Givens will deliver the morning anniversary message and at 4:00 p.m., South Carolina president Leroy Martin of St. George, SC will deliver the afternoon message.

Martin is an active member of the National Baptist Laymen and has hosted a Walter Cade, Jr. workshop in his home city and assisted in others hosted in South Carolina.

Martin is the newly elected state Brotherhood president from this past May.
