Pastor Darryl Spence Appointed Minnesota Laymen President
Minneapolis, MN -- Pastor Darryl F. Spence Sr. has been appointed to the position of president of the laymen's division of the Minnesota State Baptist Convention. He will be installed on November 9, 2013. He succeeds Rev. Jerry Moss.
Spence is the pastor of The Purpose Church, 3001 Russell Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN.
He has reached out to General Secretary Thad Jones to get updated on the national work and he has been placed in contact with Ernest Tinsley, chairman of the President's Advisory Council.
Rev. Billy Russell, pastor of the Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church is the incoming Minnesota convention president.

Willie Burke Begins Third Time As New Jersey State Laymen President
Edison, NJ -- Willie Burke who serves as the national laymen Vice President-at-Large has begun serving as the laymen's president of the General Baptist State Convention of New Jersey, Inc.
He is succeeding Richard Stanard who had to resign due to personal reasons.
Burke has served as president on two previous occasions. Burke has been the model for his successors. The New Jersey laymen have been great supporters to the national work and Burke had set the foundation for those who followed him. New Jersey has always ranked high in the financial support in the three major fundraisers, finishing first or in the top three in the King Contest and finishing first or in the top three in the bible bowl.
Burke answers the call from his state convention president, Dr. Guy Campbell to serve one more time.

Garrett to Chair Midwest 7-State Workshop
Independence, OH -- On this coming weekend, the men and women of the state of Ohio will host men, women, boys, girls and pastors from the states of Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and Ohio.
There will be more that 600 delegates at the workshop and more than 700 at the banquet as this is the largest Walter Cade, Jr. laymen's workshop.
This workshop began in 1983 and continues to this day to experience growth and give great leadership to the National Baptist Laymen's Movement.
Moses Garrett (above) is the president of the laymen for the United Missionary Baptist State Convention of Ohio. Co-hosting is the Ohio Baptist General Convention, James Coleman, president. The two state laymen conventions have joined together to host the workshop under the banner of Ohio Laymen Fellowship.

Rev. Paul Jakes To Have Book Signing For New Book "Breakfast With God!"
Chicago, IL -- Rev. Paul Jakes, pastor of the New Tabernacle of Faith Baptist Church will have a book signing for his new book, Breakfast With God!.
Jakes was instrumental during the Hurricane Katrina work by the national laymen of recruiting teams of men from the Chicago area to come and work in the gulf in 2005 and 2006.
The breakfast signing will be held November 2, 2013 at the Belmont Cragin Senior Suites, 6045 W. Grand, Chicago, IL.
