October is National Laymen's Day ObservanceMany Reports Stream In About Laymen's Day Sunday

The month of October is National Laymen Day Observance Month. Many reports have been streaming in to the General Secretary's office reporting on National Laymen's Day that has been observed around the country and those that are yet to occur.

Below is a guide for planning a National Laymen's Day Observance and upcoming observances.

National Laymen's Day Observance

The month of October for many years has been designated as the month for National Laymen's Day Observance. Laymen's Observance Day is a Sunday when churches allow the laymen to conduct the worship service. It would be the laymen's responsibility to plan and prepare the service and give public witness to their work.

Planning the Laymen's Sunday should begin with the laymen meeting for prayer, planning and enthusiastic participation. The pastor should be included in the planning.

The Laymen's Day Observance can be a tool to inspire and motivate men in the local church, gain respect from other auxiliaries in the church, garner support from other laymen organizations and give men within the local unit opportunities to exercise their gifts and talents

PURPOSE
1. Highlight the activities of laymen in the local church.
2 Teach men about the Laymen organization, goals, objectives and beliefs.
3.To continually strive to bring the unsaved men to Christ.

OBSERVANCE DAY
To encourage groups to observe National Laymen's Day at least one Sunday out of the year if not in October.

SPEAKERS BUREAU
The National Office "Speakers Bureau" can suggest national officers and ministry leaders for groups to call for nationally known quality speakers for their special days.

THEME
The National Laymen's Day theme is "Solidarity with the Savior". Sub-themes may be utilized with the national theme.

REPORTING
Churches and laymen organizations are encouraged to record and document (photos, audio,  video, minutes) their laymen's day observances and send in their reports to the General Secretary's office for publication outlining the celebration.

Groups Reporting

Thus far, laymen groups from Cleveland, OH, Independence, MO and Tacoma, WA have reported that they observed National Laymen's Day at their churches and had special guest speakers to bring the message. One group reported that their local president delivered his annual address during the service and another reported that the entire weekend is devoted to men's activities including outreach and evangelism.
