A Letter To Local, District and State

Laymen Presidents

Walter Brown

Walter Brown, Jr.

Grace and Peace Be Unto You From God our Father!

Dear State Presidents:

We write at this time praising and thanking God for all of his many blessings, his goodness and mercy.

This correspondence is to bring you up to date and share with you the plans for our 30th Bible Bowl Anniversary Tee-Shirt.  We spoke about this project at the Mid-Winter Board meeting in January.  Well, the shirt has been designed; what we need now are salespersons.

We have fifty-one (51) individuals serving as State Presidents.  Remember, many states have more than one president; Mississippi has six (6).  Our plan:  For example, if each State President was to order twenty (20) each what a blessing!  Our goal is to sell 800 shirts.

What we want to do is have pre-ordering for our June Session.  Let us, Mr. President, work together on this project for the sake of our Junior Laymen.  It still takes money for scholarships and all of the projects we want to start.

We have been blessed to have an activity last 30 years and it is still going strong.  With your help, support and prayers it will get even stronger.

A sample (picture) of the shirt and prices are enclosed.  We need your orders by  April 30, 2011..

Your order must be accompanied with payment.  Please make check payable to National Baptist Laymen and send to Brother Jerry Williams, 5801 Arabian Run, Indianapolis, IN 46228.

The order blank can be e-mailed to sajb619@cs.com or mailed to Brother Walter Brown, Jr., 28 Plum Street, Tinton Falls, NJ 07724, telephone (732)- 74l-0807.

We thank you in advance for your assistance.

Yours in Christ,

Harold L. Simmons, President

Thad Jones, General Secretary

Following the Bahamas, we will then get ready for a week of evangelism efforts in Orlando, during the Annual Session.

This effort coincides with the celebration of the 155th church anniversary of the St. Mark Native Baptist Church where Dr. Carrington Pinder is the pastor.

The Guest speakers will be President Harold Simmons, Dr. Robert Baynham, president of the Kansas State Convention, Dr. Jerry Young, V.P. at Large of the NBCUSA Inc. and Dr. George Waddles Sr., president of the National Congress of Christian Education.

Round trip flights to Nassau from Orlando are $147.00 and from Miami $142.00

We will be lodging at the Breezes Bahamas Beach Resort with a rate of $99 per person double occupancy. These are all inclusive accommodations. The plans are to arrive on Thursday, evangelize in schools and neighborhoods on Friday and Saturday.

Appeal to Baptist Men to Support
Annual World Day of Prayer
Saturday, April 23, 2011

Forestal Lawton
Director
Men's Department BWA

Kansas City, MO --

WHAT IS THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

An annual event of the Baptist World Alliance Men's Department, for men in more than 200 Baptist conventions and unions around the world, is the Baptist Men's Worldwide Day of Witness and Prayer. It is observed on the fourth Saturday of April. It seeks to involve Baptist men in a unified day of witnessing, prayer, giving, fellowship, inspiration, and learning

Baptist men, throughout the world will pray for God's help as they seek to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person in the world.  Many will follow up their prayers when we in unity pray for each other and for the entire world.  Never is the fellowship deeper, richer and stronger than when we as one heart and one soul are praying together.

OBJECTIVES OF THE WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

A. Recommit to living for Jesus Christ.

B. Recommit to the mission of winning unsaved souls back to Jesus Christ

C. Pray for ways and opportunities for men to become actively involved in and dedicated to reach the whole world about the love of Jesus Christ for all.

D. Pray for power to find ways and opportunities for men to become actively involved in activities designed to reach the whole world with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

E. Give sacrificial offerings for men's work around the world, in order that men in every Baptist convention and union might be enlisted, trained and involved in these activities.

F. Witness to all people on this day as a part of the weekend's Lay Revival activities.

G. Fellowship to encourage other men and to learn of international needs.

PRAY, THINK, ACT   - Philippians 4:6,8-9

Paul exhorted the Philippians to prayer instead of anxiety. Praying with thanksgiving involves trusting God. Four words are used here to describe a believer's communion with God. Prayer (proseuchē) describes a believer's approach to God. Petition (deēsei) emphasizes requesting an answer to a specific need. Thanksgiving (eucharistias) is an attitude of heart which should always accompany one's prayers. Requests (aitēmata) speak of definite and specific things asked for.

When the exhortations of verses 4-6 are heeded, the peace of God (v. 7) will flood one's troubled soul. The Lord Jesus Christ is a believer's peace (Eph. 2:14), and every child of God has peace with God through justification by faith (Rom. 5:1). But the peace of (or from) God relates to the inner tranquility of a believer's close walk with God.

Pray - Do not be anxious about anything.  Let your request be known to God

Think - Whatever is true, noble, right, pure, loving, admirable

Act - What you have learned, heard, seen or received from me, put into practice

Promise - And the God of Peace will Be with you.

SUGGESTED PROGRAMS/EVENTS

1.    The World Day of Prayer is an opportunity not just to involve the men in your church but to seek others in your community.  Think of creative ways that will attract:  breakfast, evening worship service, week-end revival or other special event.

2.    Participate in the "Prayer Heard Around the World

3.    Schedule an evangelistic activity.  The mission Christ left for His church was to bet laborers into the 'field'.  Remember that this activity can be the start for many Baptist men to become laborers in God's vineyard.

4.    Establish and promote an offering goal for Baptist Men's work around the world.

5.    Plan, promote and conduct a 'Baptist Men's Worldwide Day of Witness and Prayer' so men can learn about the needs and then personally respond through prayer, giving and reaching out to others.

6.    Plan a Lay Revival Activity.

7.    Arrange a Prayer Breakfast.

PRAY FOR WORLD NEEDS

1.    Earthquake victims in Haiti and Chile and others affected by natural disasters.

2.    BWA Congress, Men's Rally, Officers and staff as they serve during their terms.

3.    Adequate financial support to involve men and boys in missions worldwide.

4.    Baptist Men's Fellowship groups in all areas of the world.

5.    Relief from civil unrest that affects communities, countries.  Pray that unity will develop bringing about brotherhood, peace and cooperation.

6.    Adequate workers to rebuild homes and lives where disasters have destroyed.

7.    Respect from the government and others of human rights worldwide.
