David Patton More Than an Oratorical Contest
Winner 

 

David Patton S. Patton II, Kansas City, KS and Kansas State Junior Laymen President is more than the winner of the Kaw Valley District Association oratorical contest that he won on Wednesday of this week. 

 

Patton is also a 2013 participant in the Jack and Jill Beautillion to be held on April 13, 2013. To find our more about David. click. David Patton

 

 

 

 

David Bozeman Suffers Stroke

 

David Bozeman of Shiloh, Illinois suffered a stroke on last night, March 14th. Bozeman is the president of the Baptist General State Convention of Illinois laymen. He also serves as the National Follow-up Chairman in the evangelism ministry.

 

He is in ICU at Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville, IL. When the doctors get him stabilized they are going to take him to surgery.

The book, John Lee Webb, The Man And His Legacy differs from the authors first book, The Winds of Change, as it covers Webbs' growth and development from Tuskegee Institute, his life as a family man, his rise in the Woodmen of Union Fraternal Order, the men he met that helped him to put Hot Springs, Arkansas on the map as a Negro tourist destination. John L. Webb was the first national laymen president. 1923 - 1946.

Charlie Richmond to be Appointed
Foreign Mission Director

 

Charlie Richmond, Jr. of Whitehouse, Texas has been appointed by President Harold Simmons to lead the Foreign Mission Ministry of our National Baptist Laymen's Movement.

He will serve as an liaison to the National Foreign Mission Board.

 

He presently serves as laymen president of the Original East Texas Baptist Association in Tyler, Texas and Vice President-At-Large of the Texas Educational Baptist State Convention Laymen's Movement.

 

Recently he was added to the National Adopt-A-School Initiative team. Richmond is a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Winona, Texas where he serves on the deacons staff.

 

 

 

 

Chatham County Laymen to Sponsor Revival

 

The laymen of Chatham County located in Southeast Georgia will be sponsoring their 5th Annual One-Night Revival on Friday, March 15th at 7:00 p.m.

The theme for the revival is, "Focusing on Ministering to Others", I Peter 4:7-11. The revivalist will be the Rev. Timothy Sheppard, pastor of the Central Missionary Baptist Church in Thunderbolt. 
The revival will be held at the Bolton Street Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. Donnell Baker is the laymen president.

 

 

 

 

Henry County Laymen to Host Annual Banquet  Henry County Tennessee

 

On April 13th, 2013, the Henry County laymen's ministry of Henry County, Tennessee will be sponsoring their annual banquet. It will be held at the 55 Central Community Center, on Jones Bend Road at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00.

 

The guest speaker will be Rev. Dennis Blaylock, pastor of New St. Luke Baptist Church, Jackson, TN.

 

 

 

 

John L. Webb Book Revised and Expanded

 

The book on the life, history and legacy of John L. Webb by P.H.O.E.B.E. Publishers of Hot Springs, AR was introduced to the laymen this past September at the Annual Session held in Atlanta, GA.

John Lee Webb: The Man and His Legacy Revised and Expanded edition will be available at the Congress of Christian Education held in St. Louis, MO this coming June 17 - 21.

John L. Webb, Hot Springs, AR was the first national laymen's president who served from 1923 to 1946.

Kansas Layman of the Year

 

Fred Brown of Independence, Kansas is the Kansas State Laymen "Layman of the Year". He is the recipient of the Ledgie Hill Award. It was awarded at the Gideon Banquet to benefit Camp Ascension held at the Reardon Civic Center in Kansas City, KS on today March 9, 2013.

Ledgie Hill of Wichita, Kansas served faithfully in the local, district, state and national organizations prior to his death.

 

 

 

 

Thomas Celebrating First Anniversary

 

Rev. Keith Thomas is celebrating his first anniversary as pastor of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Champaign, IL.
Thomas serves in the National Laymen Junior Laymen Department and is the convener for the Bible Bowl.

 

 

 

 

Basketball Teams Traveling to St. Louis

Richard Showers Returns Home

 

National Laymen Vice President of the Missions Ministry Richard Showers, Sr. returned home earlier this week after a three week stay in the hospital from a serious illness. He stated, "I'm making my way back this way".

Kansas Laymen Host Banquet

 

Kansas State Laymen president Clifford Jones and the Kansas State Laymen will be sponsoring their annual Gideon Banquet on Saturday, March 9th at 12:00 noon. The banquet benefits the state convention's Camp Ascension. This will be the 45th banquet.

 

 

 

 

Melvin Snoddy Meets Dr. Scruggs

 

National Convention President Dr. Julius R. Scruggs was in Tyler, Texas recently at the North Star Baptist Church. He was at the Moderators Convention of the Texas Educational Baptist State Convention.

The event gave Texas Educational state laymen president Melvin Snoddy a chance to take a photo with Dr. Scruggs.

 

 

 

 

Tinsley to  Share Great News

 

Assistant Vice President Ernest Tinsley and chairman of the State President's Advisory Council will be sharing some great and encouraging news regarding the Adopt-A-School Ministry. Be sure to check your email.

 

 

 

Alabama Layman Passes Away

 

The General Secretary just got notified tonight that Jimmy Carter (no relations to the former president of the United States) passed away tonight.

He was a faithful member of the Northeast District in Alabama. He attended the Walter Cade, Jr. Southwest Workshop regularly. His brother, Rev. Clarence Carter also attended regularly and has appeared on program several times.

When arrangements are made, you will be notified so you can respond accordingly.

 

 

 

President Simmons' Mother Home
From the Hospital

 

Ms. Jeanette Turner, the mother of president Harold Simmons is home from the hospital.

She is at her home now with president Simmons and family giving 24 hour care. President Simmons has stated that she is coming along fine.
The family requests your prayers.

 

 

 

 

Charlie Richmond to be Appointed
Foreign Mission Director

 

President Harold Simmons will be appointing Charlie Richmond, Jr. of Whitehouse, TX to the vacant Foreign Mission Director's position.

This was 1 of 14 recommendations that President Simmons made during his annual address this past September.

A full story will be written to introduce Richmond to the members. He has been attending the regional and national meetings.
