Jacksonville, FL -- On this coming weekend, September 28 - 30, 2012, the states of Georgia, Virginia, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina will meet for the 16th Annual Walter Cade, Jr. Southeast Workshop.

The workshop will convene in the city of Jacksonville, Florida at the Wyndham Jacksonville Riverwalk Hotel. James Green (left) is the Florida General Baptist laymen state president.

 

National Laymen Vice President James Deen, Georgia, is the program coordinator for the workshop. He has a full line up of speakers, classes and activities scheduled for the weekend.

 

 

Green and the Florida laymen hosted the National Laymen last September in the city of Orlando, FL for the National Baptist Convention. Green is a resident of Miami, so Jacksonville resident Donald Rodgers is serving as the General Chairman of the host committee. 

The theme for the workshop is, "Men Living By The Law Of Love". Matthew 22:34-40

 

For the Youth Program on Friday night, the Greater Bethany Baptist Church will be providing most of the youth expressions that will include choir singing and praise dancers

  

The workshop junior laymen will be participating in the following roles.

Thematic Sermon - Rev. Curtis Raines, Vice President-At-Large, Georgia Convention 

The street evangelist will be Pastor Quvadis T. Thomas, FL 

The banquet speaker will be Brother Leroy Martin, South Carolina Brotherhood President 

The closeout and Sunday morning speaker will be Rev. J. Stephon Deen, GA 

 

General Secretary Thad Jones and President Harold Simmons will be attending the workshop to support the men and women of the Southeast region.

Atlanta, GA -- The National Baptist Laymen's Movement annual session continued on Wednesday morning, September 5, 2012 at the Georgia World Congress Center. (GWCC)

The session opened with praise and worship followed by reports from the Worship, Education and Adopt-a-School ministries.

The morning keynote speaker was Rev. E. C. Wilson, pastor of the Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. He is the pastor of Asst. General Secretary Bill Campbell.

Annual Session 2012 Harold SimmonsOn Wednesday afternoon at the 2:00 p.m. hour, president Harold Simmons delivered his 12th address as National Laymen president.

Prior to his address General Secretary Thad Jones read 14 recommendations coming from Simmons goals and new ministries for the the laymen to embark on and achieve.

Special guests that came to support Simmons gave greetings. They were Dr. Robert Baynham, Immediate Past President of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Kansas, Rev. Carrington Pinder, pastor of the St. Mark Native Baptist Church of Nassau, Bahamas, Dr. Jimmie L. Brown, president of the Missionary Baptist Convention of Missouri, Dr. George Waddles, president of the National Congress of Christian Education and James McHenry, president of the National Ushers. Dr. Elliot Cuff, dean of the National Congress introduced president Simmons.

22nd Annual Wives & Women Supporters Prayer Breakfast Rename and Ignites Annual Session Kickoff

Atlanta, GA -- The 89th Laymen's Annual Session being held in the city of Atlanta, Georgia began in earnest at 7:00 a.m. at the Marriott Marquis Hotel with the Annual Melinda J. Cade Laymen Wives & Women Supporters Prayer Breakfast. The breakfast was renamed this past January in honor of prayer breakfast founder and former general chairwoman Melinda J. Cade who passed away in October while serving.

 

There were more than 125 persons in attendance and they came to pray for this week's convention activities. The program consisted of couples serving worship leaders, rendering scripture, and offering prayers.

Prayer Breakfast 2012 Eve RidgewayOne of the first order of business for Doris Simmons who gives leadership to the Laymen Wives & Women Supporters Ministry at the beginning of the Prayer Breakfast was to name a successor to Melinda J. Cade in October 2011 following the Orlando, Florida convention.

 

The general chairwoman position was allowed to be vacant in honor and memory of Melinda J. Cade who founded the breakfast and was the serving general chairwoman at the time of her death.

 

Eve Ridgeway of Detroit, Michigan and wife of National Devotional Leader Jefferson Ridgeway was name the new general chairwoman. Ridgeway is no stranger to the work of the prayer breakfast and the work of the Laymen Wives & Women Supporters. She along with her husband and twin boys have been working in the National Laymen's Movement for many years. She has demonstrated to be faithful and a dedicated servant in all that has been assigned her and the many capacities she has served in.

There were many emotions that the attendees of the prayer breakfast experienced with this being the first one without their leader longtime leader and the work, love and memory of Melinda J. Cade still on everyone's heart.

 

With the 22nd breakfast and those going forward bearing name of Melinda J. Cade, two of her children came to Atlanta to attend the breakfast and to received special recognition and acknowledge for thier mother's work and service.

 

Receiving a tribute in honor of their mother were Steven and Jyana King. The Laymen Wives & Women Supporters, the Prayer Breakfast Committee and the National Baptist Laymen's Movement shared with Melinda's children how much she meant to them. 

 

Francess Joyner Moves Audience About Four Women

 

Prayer Breakfast 2012 Francess JoynerFrancess Joyner of New Jersey was the Melinda J. Cade Laymen Wives & Women Supporters 22nd Annual Prayer Breakfast keynote speaker. 

 

Joyner had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats as she spoke about four women from title of "Getting Close to the Savior"

 

Joyner rehearsed the biblical accounts the (1) woman at the well, (2) woman that anointed Jesus' feet, (3) woman with an issue of blood and how each one got closer to Jesus after their encounter with him. With out the audience knowing she mentioned a fourth woman and the terminal diagnoses on her life like the other three. After describing the the conditions, Joyner announced that the fourth woman was her and how after the healing power of Jesus how she had drawn closer to the savior.

Prayer Breakfast 2012 Awards  

Laymen Open 89th Annual Session at the Georgia World Congress Center 

Atlanta, GA -- The laymen opened their 89th Annual Session after the the first opening in 1924 in Nashville, Tennessee. It was held at the Georgia World Congress Convention Center.

The laymen's devotion committee opened the session on a high note with a fiery devotion. President Simmons then graveled the opening of the session. After committee reports and the introduction of the newly completed story of laymen founder John L. Webb by P.H.O.E.B.E. publishers, "The Winds of Change, John Lee Webb", the opening address was delivered by Rev. Walter Solomon, Sr. of Birmingham, AL
