A special recommendation was ratified during the the National Baptist Convention U.S.A., Inc. laymen's Mid-Winter Board session on Wednesday at the conclusion of all the reports. On the recommendation of Doris Simmons and the Laymen Wives and Women supporters ministry, it was voted to name the annual prayer breakfast the, "Melinda J. Cade Laymen Wives & Women Supporters Prayer Breakfast".

During the National Baptist Convention Annual Session, the Laymen Wives & Women Supporters sponsor a prayer breakfast on Tuesday morning. Melinda Cade of Kansas City, Kansas was the founder of the prayer breakfast with the first one being held in Washington, D.C. in September 1991.

Melinda passed away this past October after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is the widow of the National Laymen's fourth president Walter Cade, Jr. Walter Cade, Jr. who served as president for twenty-four years.
